POPULATION

The population of Costa Rica is over 4.9 millon people. Roughly one quarter of the population lives in the capital, San Jose.

CLIMATE

Costa Rica is located between 8 and 12 degrees north of the equator and thus has a tropical climate. However there are many microclimates depending on elevation, rainfall, topograthy and particular geography of each region.

On the Pacific Coast and in the Central Valley ( includes San Jose) there is a dry season from December to April, a changeover season from May to the end of August ( some showers but usually clears after an hour or two) and green or rainy season from September through to November.

On the Caribbean Coast (and including the Arenal Volcano Region) the weather is less predicatable. Generally two of the nicest months are September and October. However as this coast is covered by dense rain forest you can encounter rain showers at any time of year.
